About this event
For internal testing purposes only. Content is placeholder.
Velopeak500 starts at 8pm. By the time the fast guys are finishing, the sun is gone and the forest trails are lit by bike lights and whatever confidence you had left. By midnight, there are awards. By dawn, some people are still dancing. At 10am Sunday, the survivors go for a slow, melancholic recovery ride together like nothing happened.
That's basically the whole thing. And somehow it's become one of the most loved events on the Lithuanian cycling calendar.
The route is 80km through the dunes and forest paths of the Curonian coast — about 80% off-tarmac, sand and gravel and pine needle singletrack. It's not technically brutal, but riding it at night, in start-order determined by draw, with drafting allowed and luck explicitly listed as required equipment, gives it an energy that's hard to explain and harder to forget.
Bring any bike. Road, MTB, gravel, whatever. Bring lights. Bring a spare tube. Bring something to wear to the party after, because the party is the other half of this event and nobody treats it like an afterthought.
There's a restaurant on site, showers, a bike wash, and DJs who apparently sometimes see sunrise with you. The hashtag is #easiestpartwashard. That tracks.
